The Polar Regions – Going to extremes

Dreaming of exploring the ends of the earth?

The most adventurous of us often do, whether that be north, south, or both. For some people it’s checking the 7th continent off their list and for others it’s a passion like no other. Pristine, unspoiled and wild however you choose to go – one thing is for sure, you will be changed forever.

Seeing polar bears, penguins, caribou, pods of whales, seals, sea lions, walrus’ and more will leave you in awe and wonder of how anything can survive in such desolate places. Maybe it’s experiencing the Northern Lights you are after, or icebergs, volcanoes and the midnight sun.

There are a multitude of ways to experience the Arctic and Antarctic regions – on land, sea or both. However you decide to go, there is a journey that is right for you. Depending on which pole you want to explore will dictate the time of year you can travel.

If it’s Antarctica you’re interested in you’ll be traveling between November and March most likely and departing from either Chile or Argentina by air or sea. Some find the idea of crossing the Drake Passage onboard a ship too ominous and prefer to fly over it while others consider it part of the adventure and wouldn’t miss the opportunity to experience the Drake “lake” or the Drake “shake”. Whatever your preferred method of getting there our favorite partners will make your time in Antarctica epic.

The North offers a plethora of experiences from Norwegian fjords, circumnavigation of Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, the Northwest Passage, and Arctic Svalbard to name a few. You’ll be traveling during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer months to these destinations, but you’ll still need warm clothes and sunglasses all at the same time.
